President’s Update: Summer B 2023

Greetings RMCAD Community,

Summer is upon us, as you can tell by the return of the beautiful flowers on the RMCAD campus quad. You may have already noticed this season is heating up with our monthly Summer BBQs, JuneFest events designed for our creative community, as well as virtual workshops led by remarkable professionals and RMCAD faculty.

In celebration of Pride Month, along with participating in Denver’s Pride Parade, RMCAD is bringing students an additional virtual opportunity, our Design With Pride App Giveaway. Show us your Pride by sharing photos of your artwork on the RMCAD App with the hashtag #DesignWithPride. We continue our commitment to ensure all students, faculty, and staff feel welcomed, included, and heard. We have such a vibrant community!

We would like to thank all of you who participated in our Student Satisfaction Survey and encourage participation in the future, as your voice helps chart the course of RMCAD’s future. Through your feedback, we saw an overwhelming appreciation for your professors. Our faculty’s commitment and dedication to its students is evident in this past year’s graduating class, which was the largest in RMCAD’s history — spanning two modalities, 11 programs, and 24 states. Excellent instruction has helped our alumni move out into the professional creative world to grow as both artists and individuals. Thank you to all of our faculty for making such a positive impact. We also appreciate the suggestions for improvement, such as continuing to provide opportunities to participate in virtual and physical events and workshops, career guidance, and convenient course scheduling.

Giving back and opening our doors to the community has been our priority for the past sixty years. As we continue looking ahead, RMCAD will host a children’s summer camp, in partnership with The 40 West Arts District, The City of Lakewood, and the Denver Broncos’ ownership, for elementary and middle school-aged kids to learn the value of creativity. Campers will be hosted on campus twice a week from July 17 to 27. We are honored to continue cultivating the next generation of young artists’ creative journeys like never before. Please join us in welcoming them to our campus and RMCAD community!

In addition, we look forward to celebrating not one, but two major RMCAD milestones this fall, 20 years on our historic Lakewood campus and the college’s 60th Anniversary. Over all of these years, countless staff, faculty, students, and over 3,000 graduates have lovingly shaped RMCAD into the institution that it is today! To each and every one of you, we thank you for your contributions. To grant further recognition to those who have made a significant impact on RMCAD, we are overjoyed to reintroduce the Radiance Awards this August. We are excited to celebrate both our profound history and bright future!

As you hear from outstanding alumni, professionals, and artists this upcoming academic year, remember, they were once where you are today. Therefore, we recommend taking advantage of RMCAD’s array of resources starting on day one of your education journey. As you grow and learn, I implore you to consider the legacy you want to design. These 60 incredible years have only been possible because of individuals like yourself. Remember, your legacy is RMCAD’s legacy. We know you’ll continue to make us proud.

Stay creative,

Brent Fitch
