RMCAD Faculty

Christiana Lazarine, M.A.

Christiana Lazarine is originally from San Antonio, Texas where she studied Fashion Design at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio where she also began her teaching career as an Adjunct Professor.  Christiana attended the Paris Fashion Institute and has studied couture embroidery techniques. She researched the effects of school girl-inspired fashion trends for her master’s thesis. She presented her study at the Costume Society of America’s annual symposium. She specializes and is interested in sustainable fashion, bespoke tailoring, couture sewing techniques, product development, technical illustration, and 3D apparel rendering.

Christiana embraces an active learning approach in the classroom, both in person and virtually. During class she typically introduces a topic followed by in-class work time, allowing students to practice new concepts and focus on discovery. During this time I emphasize the importance of trial and error, learning from each other, and from their mistakes.  This class structure promotes experiential learning where students have dedicated time to practice something new and consider their thoughts and feelings on the matter. I encourage students to apply this experience to their own assumptions, leading to new perspectives and skills.

Her favorite part of teaching at RMCAD is the level of community and support. Staff are warm, welcoming, and eager to help. In the classroom, students are engaged and excited to learn. It’s inspiring to discuss topics and to hear student’s perspectives.  Christiana enjoys spending time with her family and pets. She enjoys gardening and baking with her children, traveling, and exploring her community.
