YOUR PEER MENTORS

Student Ambassadors promote the RMCAD mission through ongoing, positive leadership, civic awareness, and engagement.

Student Ambassadors are current, undergraduate, full-time students hired to serve as peer mentors to the student body starting with new-student orientation. Ambassadors work to create community amongst the diverse group of artists, designers, and musicians at RMCAD by planning events and civic engagement projects throughout the school year.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA (which must be maintained throughout the term served as a Student Ambassador)
  • Full-time student (12 credit hours or more) 
  • Minimum of Sophomore standing at start of employment
  • Ability to relate well to students, faculty, administration, students and their families where appropriate and possible
  • Strong communication skills, academic excellence in writing, reading comprehension, and academic major
  • Participate in six (6) on-ground orientations per calendar year
  • Assist in the organization and preparation of the New Student Orientation Program
  • Lead an orientation group comprised of new RMCAD students through orientation events and programs
  • Act as a resource for new RMCAD students throughout their first year at the College through regular communication and outreach
  • Acquaint new students with campus services, activities, and resources
  • Work closely with departmental faculty and Chairs to connect all students with their respective academic department
  • Lead campus tours and participate in Q&A sessions with prospective students
  • Plan, organize, and implement events for the students that are social, departmental, cultural/educational, and service-related:
    • Events will be planned and organized in working groups
    • A minimum of 10 events will occur throughout the 16-week semester
  • Serve as a positive representative of RMCAD and role model for other students at all times
  • Seek involvement in Civic Engagement opportunities and garner interest from students
  • Assist RMCAD administrative staff with campus-wide events and opportunities (i.e. Gallery openings, Open Studios, VASD Lectures, etc.) as requested by the Director of Student Life
  • Adhere to the Student Code of Conduct and all other policies and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook
  • Expected to communicate with the Director of Student Life about concerns or issues that pertain to their role as a Student Ambassador
  • Participate in a performance evaluation process at least once per semester
  • Student Ambassadors are required to attend all training and preparation sessions, which will include evening or overnight sessions, in addition to day-long sessions at the end of August
  • Student Ambassadors are required to attend all components of both fall/spring orientation sessions
  • Student Ambassadors are required to commit up to 10 hours per week, which include and are not limited to the following set times:
    • 1 hour/week to meet as a group with the Director of Student Life
    • 30 minutes/week to meet with your assigned working group
    • 1 hours/week to be present in the Student Ambassador Office/Online for Office Hours
    • 3 hours/week to lead campus tours
    • 3 hours/week for event preparation and planning
    • 1.5 hours/week for outreach and peer engagement both on ground and online
  • Events that are planned through the Ambassador program will require attendance from all available Ambassadors during the actual event
  • Special events, such as Halloween Week, Thanksgiving Dinner, Spivak Shows, and Spring Formals will require entire team involvement
  • Professional development and leadership experience benefitting resume and curriculum vitae 
  • Extensive training and development in the areas of peer development, mentoring, communication, and program/event planning
  • Opportunity to work closely and collaborate with RMCAD faculty and administration
  • Access to the Student Ambassador Office (TX 216)
  • Networking opportunities in the community
  • Each Campus Student Ambassador will be compensated $1,800.00 for each semester of work completed
  • These payments may be applied to your account in $900 installments
  • Please note A/B cohort might affect payment schedule

APPLICATION PROCESS

To learn more about the program and speak to the Ambassadors in person attend one of the following info sessions:

  • Tuesday, February 11, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. MT 
  • Wednesday, February 12, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. MT
  • If you have been selected for Round 1, you must attend a one-and-a-half-hour group interview. 
  • The Group Interview will take place on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 4:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. MT.

Applicants will be notified by email whether or not they have been selected to participate in Round 2 the week of March 24, 2025.

  • Applicants must list their availability for a half hour individual interview on their application form.  The Director of Student Life will reply to you via email with your interview time.
  • Individual interviews will take place between Monday, March 31 – Friday, April 11, 2025.

Applicants will be notified whether or not they’ve been selected to become a 2025-2026 Student Ambassador by Friday, April 18, 2025.

  • Those selected to be Student Ambassadors will be required to attend a brief meeting on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. MT 
  • Those selected to be Student Ambassadors will be required to attend ALL training sessions scheduled during the summer and prior to the start of the Fall semester.
  • All Student Ambassadors are required to participate in the 2025 New Student Orientation on Friday, August 29, 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Ability to relate well to students, faculty, and administration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Assist with the new student Virtual Orientations (6 per year)
  • Mentor new online students through regular communication and outreach
  • Assist with and participate in events that support student readiness and encourage student success
  • Manage the Student Ambassador profile in the LMS and engage with new online students by responding to discussion posts in PRE-ORIENTATION (a.k.a LAUNCH)
  • Manage the Student Ambassador page in the RMCAD app and post 1 entry weekly that encourages peer-to-peer discussion, provides valuable advice for student success, and/or promotes professional development
  • Collaborate with ground Student Ambassadors, attend virtual events, and encourage participation from online students
  • Conduct regular research to find professional development opportunities across the country and share weekly with online students
  • Monitor the Student Ambassador email account, answer questions, and facilitate discussion as appropriate
  • Plan and organize at least 2 events per semester with your assigned partner (opportunity to collaborate with campus Ambassadors to plan and organize 1 event per semester)
  • Refer online students to appropriate college resources (i.e. Student Learning Center, Career + Alumni Services, Health + Wellness Center, etc.)
  • Work closely with faculty to connect online students with their respective academic department
  • Serve as a student representative and attend various RMCAD events hosted virtually (i.e. online webinars or forums)
  • Participate in Virtual Student Forums with the Student Leadership Alliance (SLA)
  • Adhere to and uphold the Student Code of Conduct and all other policies and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook
  • Participate in a performance review process at the end of each semester
  • Student Ambassadors are required to attend all training and preparation sessions
  • Student Ambassadors are required to commit up to 6 hours per week, which include, but are not
    limited to:
    • 1 hour/week for a virtual Team Meeting with Student Life
    • 30 minutes/week to meet with Student Life and your assigned partner(s)
    • 30 minutes/week for outreach
    • 1 hour/week to respond to and engage with new students in the LMS and PreOrientation/Launch
    • 1 hour/week for event research and planning
    • 1 hour/week for research / promotion of professional development opportunities and to engage with peers in the RMCAD app
    • 1 hour/week to promote and attend virtual events
  • Each Online Student Ambassador will be compensated $1,200 for each semester of work completed
  • Gain leadership experience, work closely with RMCAD faculty and staff, and utilize college resources
  • Training and development in the areas of leadership, mentoring, communication, and program/event planning

  • Those selected to be Student Ambassadors will be required to attend a brief virtual meeting on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. MT 
  • An email and Google calendar invitation will be sent to your email as a reminder.
  • Those selected to be Student Ambassadors will be required to attend ALL training sessions scheduled during the summer and prior to the start of the Fall semester.
