Artist Statement
I picture an entire room as a metaphor for my psyche and mental state; In that room, I want to express the constant battle I have with inspiration, as well as the looming thought of failure. Thoughts and emotions can hinder my creativity and forward momentum, which I may only later understand. I am producing material forms that encompass the entire (mind) space and disrupt a clear path. While it suggests disarray, it still has hints of comfort.
Throughout the pleasant disorder there are dioramas of varying size and visibility- some large and ominous, yet well hidden, others small, open, and honest. Viewers can move through the (mind) space or linger on the forms, symbols of my thoughts and mental barriers. Either way, they will all relate back to ideas, feelings, and actions that can serve as roadblocks or helping hands in times of creativity.
