Foundations + Fine Art faculty member Ania Gola-Kumor’s exhibition, Moving Paint II, will be on display at the Sondra Phillips Gallery from October 27 to December 2. The opening reception will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017.
Her 2013 solo exhibition Moving Paint was awarded Best Gallery Show – Solo by Denver Westword. Michael Paglia wrote, “Her painterly technique is breathtaking, with lots of overpainting in broken passages across the picture that is emphasized by a sense for drawing, as though Gola-Kumor had scribbled across the canvases and then carefully filled in the resulting automatist forms with layer upon layer of pigment — which is precisely what she did. The automatism links her to abstract expressionism, while the meditative followup makes her approach distinctly different. Gola-Kumor’s palettes are remarkable and unerring in their elegant balance. The paintings in this group are closely associated formally, but not in terms of their colors, which, though defined by a limited range within each piece, encompass the entire spectrum of color across the series. Some are filled with hot, toned-up reds and oranges, while others are in cool, recessive shades of creams and greens; all are untitled.”
Ania Gola-Kumor earned an MFA with a specialization in Painting and Exhibition Design from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw Poland. She is published in 100 Creative Drawing Ideas and in Mixed Media Big and Small. Her art has appeared in numerous publications including Art Space and ART News. Gola-Kumor has exhibited in New York, London, New Mexico and Colorado. She has shown work at the Inkfish Gallery in Denver, Urfman Gallery at Colorado State University, Sena Galleries East in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
