Beginning in the Spring 2014 term, RMCAD will expand its programs to include a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Photography and Undergraduate Commercial Photography Certificates. Also in 2014, our Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Art will be available entirely online, as well as on campus.
Commercial Photography Courses in the commercial photography program will be available online and on campus. Students can select an emphasis in commercial photography or photojournalism/documentary.
The BFA in Commercial Photography, through pointed and comprehensive coursework, will prepare students for commercial photography and photojournalism/documentary careers. Professional options may include staff photographer, fashion photographer, independent consultant and portrait photographer. Students will emerge from this program with the technical, creative, business, and ethical skills necessary to thrive in the professional marketplace.
All coursework in the program is presented within the context of client needs and project manifestation. Students will acquire the communication skills necessary to meet with clients, establish an understanding of their business product and marketing strategy, and use their unique photographic abilities to meet client’s photographic needs.
Core studio classes include: Photoshop, Lightroom, Digital Printing Evaluating and Lighting Locations Portraiture, Business, Editorial, Social Commercial Video 1: The DSLR and Motion Studio Lighting 1: Product and Portraiture Visual Language and Storytelling Advanced Digital Imaging Professional Practices: Real World Marketing
The commercial photography emphasis focuses on the conceptual, practical and aesthetic applications of commercial photography. Courses within this emphasis are as follows: Annual Report Photography Architectural and Industrial Landscapes Project Development Portfolio Advanced Projects/Internships Senior Portfolio Review
The emphasis in photojournalism/documentary examines the relationship between photography, news agencies and clients. Students focusing their studies in this area will take courses including: Fundamentals of Photojournalism Advanced Photojournalism Documentary: Environmental Portraiture Advanced Projects/Internships Senior Portfolio Review
RMCAD will also offer a 16-credit undergraduate certificate in each emphasis area.
Game Art RMCAD’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Game Art program teaches students to transform a simple sketch to a complex, realistic 3D model. Students learn the fundamentals of interactive graphics development and cutting-edge production methods to create art for the professional gaming industry.
Game art is a rapidly growing industry and with its growth comes an increased demand for qualified designers. Beginning in 2014, our game art program will provide artistic and technical skills both online and through or Multi-platform Learning Method.
